Aspen used to be a booming Silver mining town in the 1890's but now it is one of the all time great ski destinations and many skiers favourite resort. In fact, it comprises four resorts each being very different but between them Aspen has terrain to suit all preferences and abilities. Aspen Mountain is superb for intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders and the terrain runs into the heart of the town. Snowmass resort is just 15 minutes shuttle away at the other end of the four mountains, offering large and varied terrain with a ski-in/ski-out village, great for families. The Buttermilk area is ideal for novice skiers and boarders. Lastly, there is Aspen Highlands, home to the legendary Highland Bowl. Aspen had glitz and glam and is visited by many rich and famous but essentially it is filled by ordinary holiday makers. It is a vibrant American town with boutiques, fine dining and trendy bars intermixed with ski shops, well priced restaurants and pubs.
